WingSpan Poetry Project

Journal / Blank Books / Notebooks Drive–an incredible success!
Thank you to everyone (too many of you to name!) who donated journals and blank books to WingSpan. The women love having something beautiful of their own to keep and write in. And once again, thank you to Joan Logghe for sounding the call. Blessings on you all.

August, 2016

WingSpan is deeply grateful to Steve Schwartz and the Witter Bynner Foundation for awarding us a grant that will fund our project for the next year!

WingSpan will begin working this fall with the Esperanza Support Center, offering workshops for the survivors and the perpetrators of domestic violence in conjunction with individual Esperanza counselors.

The WingSpan Poetry Project was honored in September with a Community Partnership Award from the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families for the work we do with their clients.

WingSpan is now be working with Youth Shelters in Santa Fe, teaching weekly classes at the Emergency Youth Shelter.  Also, as part of their Life Skills program in the Transitional Living Facility, WingSpan taught a 3 week poetry class in July, 2015.

WingSpan Poetry Library was installed at Lotus House in Miami.

Weekly poetry classes continue at the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families in Santa Fe, and at Lotus House Women’s Shelter in Miami.

We continue to take donations for poetry books for all of the WingSpan Libraries, and we are planning on installing one at Youth Shelters this year.

The Poetry Library at the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families is in!  Over 100 volumes of poetry books on a beautiful shelf in the living room for all the residents and staff to enjoy!

WingSpan teachers taught a successful 10 week poetry workshop for residents at St. Elizabeth’s Sonrisa 2 year family residential program.  We look forward to working regularly with St. Elizabeth, and offering poetry classes in some of their other remarkable programs!
